The C1 Sun Concert is constructed of instrument grade Koa and this model has been customized with a Curly Koa and Grover geared tuners upgrade. East Indian Rosewood is used on the bridge and fingerboard. Construction of the neck is made from South American Mahogany and internal bracing is made of Spruce. The most unique feature of the Sun Concert is the intricate Abalone inlay of a sun motif on the rosette which extends into the fingerboard – a beautiful piece of Hawaiian handcrafted artwork by highly-skilled craftsmen.
This particular model has a 40% drop out rate – of 10 instruments, GString tend to send out only 6 of them to dealers. Derek Shimizu, founder of GString, is very picky about the inlay work and will ship the C1 Sun Concert only if it is absolutely perfect. I learned that GString builds about a dozen or so C1 Sun Concerts a year.
